Calling Students, Educators, Schools, Education Providers…
Join us in making history by creating a landmark that will be captured in the
Indiana 2025-2027 Aerial Photography!
How to Get Involved:
1. Check the Map Above to See if Your County will be Flown in 2025: Flights begin February 14, 2025!
2. Plan Your Design
a. Brainstorm Ideas: Think of something that represents your community, school spirit, or fun theme.
b. Size and Scale: Your artwork must be large enough to be seen clearly in the aerial imagery. Use tools like
measuring tapes and grid paper to plan your design.
c. Resolution Awareness: Learn how pixel resolution affects visibility in aerial images.
3. Create Your Landmark
a. Surface Preparation: Choose a suitable outdoor surface such as grass, parking lots, or tennis courts.
b. Grid It Out: Transfer your design to the surface using grid techniques.
c. Use the Right Materials: Plan for materials like paint, brushes, and weather-resistant supplies.
d. Build and Construct: Use materials from home or school to bring your design to life.
e. Finish on Time: Check the flight schedule for your area and ensure your design is ready!
4. Capture the Moment: Your landmark will be photographed from a bird’s eye view and become part of an official
aerial image!
Educational Opportunities:
- Art Meets Technology: Learn about pixel resolution, scale and the science of aerial photography (or ortho-imagery). The higher the resolution, the more details your artwork can be captured in the imagery, showcasing the artwork to its fullest!
- Planning with Precision: Measure and scale with tools like grid paper to ensure your design fits the outdoor space.
- Color and Composition: Learn about color theory and how to make your design pop from above …a bird’s eye view. Consider how letters or small details will appear in the imagery.
